Another Reason For A Low Carb Diet

I am really concerned about our diets and what we are doing to ourselves and the next generation. One of the real scary aspects of this is the skyrocketing levels of obesity and diabetes in the US. Over 60% of the adult population is now considered obese and the kids are almost as bad off. We have gone from a population that exercised as a normal part of the daily routine and ate a low caloric diet with plenty of good fiber and lean meat to the complete opposite.

We no longer have hardly any physical activity on a daily or even a weekly. We get up in the morning and drive to work, then we sit at a desk all day, then we drive our car back home and spend the rest of the evening in front of the television or computer. People used to routinely walk several miles every day when that was the only mode of transportaiton. Our bodies have adapted to that type of existence after thousands of years. Now, within a few generations, we have completely changed the amount of physical exercise required for daily living. Are bodies are designed to convert blood sugar into energy because that has been needed for thousands of years.

So we are using less energy which would be ok if we cut our caloric intake but instead we have increased it dramatically. Our current fast food and prepared meals are loaded with fat and sweeteners. Both of these raise the calories available from every meal we eat. This is being played out in our obesity levels nationwide. Obesity is one of the leading causes of our sky rocketing health care costs.

It is so bad that this generation of young people is the first one in history to have a life expectancy less than their parents. This means that kids today can expect to live a shorter, more unhealthy life than their parents. All of this because we eat too much and don’t exercise. We have got to get a handle on this obesity epidemic or our health care costs are going to go even higher while our standard of living deteriorates.
